Montpellier

Montpellier city is located in southern France on the Mediterranean coast and is the capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

Montpellier is 750 km from Paris. Travel time is approximately an hour by plane and three-and-a-half hours by train.

Travel Information

A valid passport (or identity card for European citizens) is required for all visitors entering France. No visa is required for citizens from the EU or from most other European countries, USA, and Japan, and a few other countries [Do you need a visa?]. Please contact the French embassy or consulate in your country for details on visa and entry requirements.

Reaching Montpellier by air

Montpellier can be reached from all countries by connecting through Paris airports. The Montpellier Mediterranée Airport receives about 15 daily flights. Air France operates flights to and from Paris and other French cities. Many airlines, some of them low-cost (Ryan Air), connect Montpellier directly to other European cities such as London, Brussels and Madrid.

Reaching Montpellier by train


The high-speed TGV train connects:
Paris to Montpellier in 3h20, Roissy CdG airport to Montpellier in 4h.
Brussels to Montpellier in 5h.
Other daily or overnight trains provide connections between Montpellier and London, Brussels, Madrid, Rome, Amsterdam, Munich, Frankfurt, Geneva, Vienna, etc.

Reaching Montpellier by road


Exit highway A9 at ‘Montpellier Sud’. At the roundabout, take the exit marked ‘Mosson’.
Continue straight for several kilometres (‘Avenue des Prés d’Arènes’ then ‘Avenue de la liberté’). Then turn right at the ‘Hôpitaux Facultés’ signpost.
Filter into the left hand lane (you will see ‘Géant’ hypermarket on your right). Go through the underpass. Turn right at the 4th set of traffic lights, at the SupAgro/INRA signpost, into ‘Avenue du Professeur Louis Ravas’. INRA is on the left side of the road, after passing one set of traffic lights.
